I was excited and overwhelmed all at the same time. What have I signed up for?!

9.18.2011

09.18

Two to four to six to eleven. It's such a joyous chaos.

9.17.2011

09.17

I love it when the jammies get muddy and wet and nobody minds.

9.16.2011

09.16

That schedule...always ticking in my ear. Always winning. We caught only the last moments of the honoring.

9.15.2011

9.14.2011

09.14

A beautiful, outside day. And the camera spent the entire time in here. Though I do keep it interesting inside that purse. Never know what you might find.

9.13.2011

09.13

Finding them was the best part of today. Reading them is the best part of nearly every day.

9.12.2011

09.12

I can't do everything. I've had misplaced priorities. It's time to rearrange.

9.11.2011

09.11

I've been wanting to write something. Today I felt like I had to. I'm glad I didn't have kids ten years ago.

9.10.2011

09.10

Today I made a long list of all the things I intend on doing. Eventually. I'm considering that productivity and calling it a day.

9.08.2011

09.08

Grandpa provided the entertainment today so that I could accomplish some domesticity.

9.07.2011

09.07

It surprised me that the first day of wet, gray gloom was as welcome to me as the first day of Spring. The first day is the only day of wet, gray gloom that is welcome, however.

9.06.2011

09.06

Lucky for me, they're recording their own childhood on video. Probably a truer record than I'd ever get.

9.05.2011

09.05

Fall heard my call and came as quickly as it could. I celebrated with a cup of tea outside.

9.04.2011

09.04

The entire afternoon stretched out before me and then, evaporated. Still, if all my days were like this, they would feel empty.

9.03.2011

09.03

All the things I like to do...they're impossible to fit in a day. Maybe even in a lifetime? Though that's yet to be seen.

9.02.2011

09.02

It's not his fault, so I really have to remember to be careful what I say. Not to make him feel bad. But the stench coming from these things (and the feet that go in them) is intolerable.

9.01.2011

09.01

Once upon a time, I wondered how people could really go to every single home game. I don't wonder any more. Only wish.

8.31.2011

08.31

It seems like childhood is supposed to involve feathers. We always wash our hands, so I think I'm just going to go with it.

8.30.2011

08.30

I haven't yet perfected the justification of getting nothing accomplished. But it was a lovely day and perhaps that doesn't need justified.

8.29.2011

08.29

This house is full of superheros. But even superheros hang up the cape now and then.

8.27.2011

8.26.2011

8.24.2011

08.24

The after-school grumps were gone, I thought. But they're coming back. For all of us.

8.23.2011

08.23

A new playground is something to be excited about. I can't wait to take his brother there.

8.22.2011

08.22

He looked up at me and said, "This is the worst part of school."

8.21.2011

08.21

I expect perfection out of him when I'm incapable of it myself. I need to cut the kid some slack.

8.20.2011

08.20

The sound of the moving water, my kids dirty, all of us together. Today was full of happiness. I sat on the rocks and tried to wrap my arms around it.

8.19.2011

08.19

These days have seemed so long, lovely, full of light.

8.18.2011

08.18

It could have been so much worse. It's nice to have people to call.

8.17.2011

08.17

The two of us still have a bit of adjusting to do. Finding that balance between what we want to do and what needs to happen.

8.16.2011

08.16

The sun shone on us today. Literally and figuratively.

8.14.2011

08.14

We were giddy with the temperatures. A day game in August and we weren't soaked with sweat. A victory, even if the Reds didn't get one.

8.13.2011

08.13

The cowboy said maybe we could follow the rainbow to a pot of gold at the end of this Reds season. I'm sure hoping.

8.12.2011

08.12

Everything about today felt good: reunions, spontaneity, restraint, promise, laughter, understanding, and patience. One of those that doesn't always come around.

8.11.2011

08.11

I never expect to see those squares of moonlight. I never get tired of their surprise.

8.10.2011

8.09.2011

08.09

He gets pretty grouchy when things don't go his way. Glad he didn't pick that one up from me.

8.07.2011

08.07

We couldn't seem to find that happy medium. All we found were extremes.

8.06.2011

08.06

Science experiments with dry ice. What a great vacation.

8.05.2011

08.05

We have big kids. Kids who can ride for five hours without crying or whining. Kids who enjoy going to an art museum. Big kids all of a sudden.

8.04.2011

08.04

A lizard with a bright blue tail scurried across our balcony today. And we weren't too busy to stop and watch it.

8.02.2011

08.02

Sometimes I think the catalogs provide more hours of enjoyment than the actual toys.

8.01.2011

08.01

As I high-stepped over "The Web of the World," Brian told me I was a good mom. If all it takes to be a good mom is the ability to allow and then overlook a mess, I think my kids will be OK.
